What I Learned: In this assignment I learned how to critically examine case studies, research pathophysiology of a disease state, interpret lab values, calculate anthropometric data, investigate drug-nutrient interactions, make a nutrition diagnoses, and how to design a nutrition intervention for a specific diet.
Reflection to Assignment: This assignment opened my eyes to how much detail and investigation it takes to understand, interpret, and diagnose a specific diet-related disease. As one that suffers from celiac disease myself, it was interesting to gain a much better picture of the disease and how it affects the body. The assignment also shown light on the fact that all disease treatments and patient care is individualized and complicated.
Relevance to the profession: Medical Nutrition Therapy is critical in all health conditions. The skills taught in this assignment are very important for clinical dieticians. Being able to perform and assess the nutrition care plan is a vital skill to the profession.
