Assignment Title: Congestive Heart Failure with Resulting Cardiac Cachexia
What I Learned: In this assignment I learned how to navigate the Evidence Analysis Library and make nutrition intervention decisions based on it. Much like the previous case study, I learned how to interpret lab values and examine drug-nutrient interactions. This case study also provided the unique opportunity to learn about end-of-life care. I also learned how to give a professional presentation to my schoolmates on the topic.
Reflection to Assignment: This assignment allowed me the opportunity to present current and effective medical nutrition therapy in both a written and oral manner. This assignment again reminded me how complex certain health conditions may be and that nutrition intervention is solely based around the needs of the patient, not necessarily what is a universal intervention for all.
Relevance to the profession: Utilization of the Evidence Analysis Library is essential for all practicing dieticians as well as DTR’s and other nutrition professionals. The ability to be focused on patient-centered care is imperative for all nutrition professionals to make the best diagnoses, intervention, and evaluation possible.
