Assignment Title: Hunger in Butte County
What I Learned: In this assignment I gained experience in conducting qualitative research using in-depth interviews. This assignment taught me to how develop specific questions that would provide me with qualitative material to better help me write a research report. I also learned how to code responses using a code matrix.
Reflection to Assignment: This assignment helped to develop my writing and interviewing skills. Issues of food insecurity and hunger have always been a true desire for me to research and this assignment allowed me the freedom to have the opportunity to do so. I also learned how to utilize many community resources, all having direct impact on hunger and food insecurity in Butte County, while fostering critical thinking.
Relevance to the profession: Qualitative analysis and research seeks to analyze the questions and perceptions people carry about the understanding of the world. It is an area of research that relies on feelings, emotions, and verbal communication that is not quantifiable. It is important for nutrition professionals to analyze and interpret qualitative data to better understand a certain trend or topic.
